Aight. So, i upgraded to WordPress 2.6 but not it seems my wordpress has gone NUTS! Actually not. The main issue is that after i upgraded from my 2.5 version to the 2.6 version, i now have to do something so that my pictures/videos are still beeing uploaded to the right directory.

I tried uploading a picture but somehow something went wrong. The picture isn’t showing. It is uploading but it can’t be shown as the path is incorrect. But there is a small ‘fix’ if you want to call it like that.

In your administrator panel you have under Settings, a new section called Miscellanous (the path is /wp-admin/options-misc.php) if you have a plugin that isnt showing you this button. Click on it and under STORE UPLOADS IN THIS FOLDER, enter your desired path. If you used /wp-content/uploads prior to your upgrade and still have files in there, i’d suggest you enter /wp-content/uploads, and click SAVE CHANGES. This should start working right away.

Now, if you don’t want to upload your files into /wp-content/uploads, simply enter any path (relative to your blog) and remember to chmod or you won’t be able to upload as wordpress won’t write to that folder.

For the past three days i changed my blog’s design to Lemon Twist which was created by Chris Murphy, and modified by him to suit the latest wordpress version. This 2.0 version doesnt have any widgets but it’s pretty easy to add such functionality to it.

The theme itself is a pretty great theme as it has jQuery installed and it does require some basic modifications to your wordpress. However, the theme is pretty fast and it’s very lightweight providing readers a great way to read your blog and stay in touch with you. It may look pretty complicated at first but once you get to know her, it’s great.

I did notice some basic things that the website doesnt have. First of all it’s not Valid XHTML. Second of all it doesnt have a login and/or admin panel, and so i decided to put one into it. I added a Login or Admin Panel into the blogmeta.php file which is displayed on the right. I did this by adding this into wp-content/themes/Lemon_Twist/includes/sidebar/blogmeta.php:

This displays Admin Panel with a link to the dashboard if the Admin is logged in. If the user/admin is not logged in it will display Login with a link to wp-login.php for easy access.

If you’re not used to adding such modifications to any theme, or you don’t know how, you can however download my blogmeta.php (232) and replace it with wp-content/themes/Lemon_Twist/includes/sidebar/blogmeta.php.

How to speed up your firefox and remove memory leaks.

Everybody knows that Firefox saves pages into its cache. This makes it so that when you click your back button the page will be loaded from cache. But this slows down firefox pretty much. Here’s a few solutions to speed up / optimize firefox that can lead to a low-memory usage of Firefox. I personally have 1270 MB RAM on my laptop and a 1,5 Intel Celeron M processor.

Open a new tab by pressing CTRL+T and enter about:config.

Search for browser.sessionhistory. Double click on browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers and replace the -1 value with the value 0. This will make it so that the next time you’ll click your back button the page will be reloaded instead of beeing read from cache and therefore minimizing the memory that Firefox is using.

Are you a download-addict ? Or simply you seem to forget where you’re downloading your files and keeping your Download list with all your past week’s downloads ? Well, this takes up a little too much of Firefox’s memory. So, press CTRL+J (if your Downloads tab is closed) and click on Clean Up. Eventually you can go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy and look for Private Data (last column). Click on Settings, now check the Download History, and click OK. You can also make repeat automatically by checking the Always clear my private data when i close Firefox (this will make it so that all the selected informations will be deleted when closing Firefox) and uncheck the Ask me before clearing private data, to get rid of the dialog that pops-out when you’re trying to close Firefox. Press OK.

You’re using addons (don’t we all?) ? You have some addons that you installed just for testing purposes or you’re using them very rarely/never ? UNINSTALL THEM (don’t disable them). Just keep the ones you’re using often or daily. After uninstall it’s recommended that you restart your Firefox. Have the feeling that firefox is still eating pretty much memory ? It could be a addon problem. You can check that by starting firefox in safe-mode, by going to Start -> Run and enter firefox.exe -safe-mode. If Firefox’s performance boosts up you should proceed to uninstall every plugin (one at a time) and check which one is slowing your firefox down. You badly need that addon ? Look for an alternative on http://addons.firefox.org and see the difference.

Enjoy your new and faster firefox that will eat only the amount of memory it needs to run smoothly and i really hope this tip & trick helped you.
